Camille Cardi: Free Crochet Pattern (2024)

The Camille Cardi is quite possibly the easiest free crochet pattern available for a cardigan. There are NINE sizes ranging from XS – 5XL, the fit is a bit roomy. The result is a sleek, classic cardi that you can wear virtually anywhere. Make your own using this free crochet pattern!

Camille Cardi: Free Crochet Pattern (1)

The Camille Cardi is a piggyback off of a different new free crochet pattern here at Heart Hook Home. The Bernadette Boucle cardigan has been one of the most popular new patterns of 2024. That pattern uses the gorgeous Bubbly Boucle yarn that is new from WeCrochet.

Because of the amazing texture of that yarn and the difficulty I faced working it up using traditional crochet, I decided to use Tunisian crochet for that design. What I love about the Bernadette Boucle is how incredibly simple the design is to work up. If you love Tunisian crochet, you’ll love the Bernadette!

Camille Cardi: Free Crochet Pattern (2)

And if you don’t love Tunisian crochet… that’s okay too! My decision to use Tunisian Crochet in that design meant, of course, that I would have to make a traditional crochet version as well. So here we are with the Camille Cardi, a streamlined, sleek, and incredibly EASY-to-make crochet cardigan. In fact, I’m sure we could call this the “My First Crochet Cardigan” and beginner crocheters everywhere would unite in all the cardigan glory!

Camille Cardi: Free Crochet Pattern (3)

There’s nothing more satisfying than making something for yourself in the color that you chose, in the style that you chose, in the fit that you chose… and then feeling like a million bucks wearing it. Even better is when strangers compliment your style and you get to say “Thanks, I made it!” 😍

For the Camille Cardigan I am using a bit thicker yarn that I used for the Bernadette. The Bernadette uses the Bubbly Boucle yarn which is classified as a size 2/Sport weight yarn. For all the fuzziness of that yarn and the density of the fabric despite its thinner yarn weight size, I decided to use a regular acrylic yarn for this version. Pictured here is Brava Recycle, a 100% recycled acrylic yarn available in a variety of muted colorways. This red pictured here is the “Rorschach” colorway.

Camille Cardi: Free Crochet Pattern (4)

The teal version pictured here was made using the Brava Sport yarn in “Tidepool”. Such a gorgeous shade of blue/green! The Brava Sport weight yarn worked up nicely even though it is listed as a sport/size 2 yarn.

Other great yarn options includeMellowspun from Mary Maxim,Bernat Softee Baby, Premier Bamboo Fair,Amigo from Hobbii,Happy Place from Hobbii,Mega Ball from Hobbii,Lion Brand Feels like Alpaca, or any other size 3/DK weight yarn you like.

For this gorgeous beginner cardigan we are using the Wide Double Crochet Stitch. It is the same exact thing as the regular double crochet except that you will work between the stitches of the previous row instead of into the top of them. I find that it is actually easier to create this stitch because the hole into which you must insert your hook is larger.
