It seems the foodie world is divided into camps. The chocolate lovers. Those indifferent to chocolate. (NOT me – I’ll take mine dark and daily, thank you very much.)

And then there are the coconut lovers. And the haters. (Sometimes you feel like a nut. Sometimes you don’t.)

And let’s not forget the root beer lovers. Either you love it or you don’t.

I love telling stories, so indulge me. Just this once. (Ahem.)I first heard about Not Your Father’s Root Beer at midnight atop Gunstock Mountain this past summer. Lest you think me a secret midnight mountain-top partier mama, let’s set the record straight here and now.

Each summer there’s a big Christian music festival up at Gunstock Mountain in Gilford, NH: Soul Fest. Long time friends of ours drive up from south of the Mason Dixon line and meet their New England family there. They rent RV’s, camp out, cook out and hang out by the camp fire. Sometimes we drive in and join them for a concert or two on the mountain.

This past summer they gifted me concert tickets for my birthday (woot woot!) and our whole family stayed up on the mountain through the last concert of the night. At nearly midnight, we found ourselves stumbling down the mountainside, bleary-eyed with an hour’s drive home ahead of us.

We rifled through the drinks cooler at their campsite, searching for high-octane caffeine for the ride home. There were soft drinks, sparkly watersand root beer to choose from. That started the late night debate as to whether traditional root beer is caffeinated or not.

And that’s when she said: “Allie, have you tried Not Your Father’s Root Beer yet? Because you’ve got to, it’s the best.”

Well I was one of those kids who stuffed a handful or two of the root beer barrels into the little white paper bag at the penny candy store. (Remember? Those were the days.) And as a foodie, I’m always listening, paying attention to the food and drink trends. What’s new. What folks are cooking, baking, drinking etc.

So as a root beer lover, I knew I had to check out Not Your Father’s Root Beer asap. And just a few weeks later when Drizlyasked me to collaborate on a fun new drink recipe, naturally I dreamed of a root beer float with Not Your Father’s Root Beer from Small Town Brewery.

Drizly is a cool new alcohol delivery service bringing icy cold spirits straight to your doorstep in under an hour. So easy and convenient for parties or even a quiet night in. And Not Your Father’s Root Beer is available righthere, check it out!

Well I wasn’t disappointed when I finally tasted Not Your Father’s Root Beer. Here’s what Small Town Brewery has to say:

“Not Your Father’s Root Beer is a category-defining craft specialty ale brewed with unique spices. Brewer Tim Kovac’s creativity and painstaking commitment to flavor complexity results in an unmistakable offering that masterfully blends hints of sarsaparilla, wintergreen, anise, and vanilla. A smooth and balanced ale, NYFRB has broad appeal – from discerning craft beer drinkers to non-beer drinkers.”

While I typically enjoy wine and more fruity co*cktails (likeBlueberry Basil Mojito, Strawberry Sangria or White Wine Peach Sangria), a beerdrinker I am not. So I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved this smooth root beer ale. I call it refined root beer with a little kick, the perfect backdrop for a scoop of creamy vanilla bean ice cream. Hope you love this Not Your Father’s Root Beer Float Recipeas much as we do! (Not Your Father’s Root Beer is availablehere!)
