Recreate this pumpkin pie soap recipe using melt and pour soap for a fun way to cleanse skin and bask in pumpkin spice this fall.
This glycerin pumpkin pie soap is a wonderful way to celebrate the arrival of autumn. Not only is this soap project a fun adult craft, but it’s also a creative way to decorate your sink for fall. The easy melt and pour soap recipe uses simple layers of glycerin soap. It also includes a moisturizing body butter for dry skin in addition to ground coffee, salt and sugar for exfoliation.
To really give this homemade soap its fall vibes, however, a fabulous fragrance blend of pumpkin spice and cardamom mocha is used. This creatively cozy fragrance is perfect for this pie soap recipe.

Ingredients
These are the ingredients needed to make my pumpkin pie soap recipe:
- 5.4 oz. clear detergent free melt and pour soap base(or similar)
- 13.35 oz. white detergent free melt and pour soap base(or similar)
- 3.25 oz. basic white melt and pour soap base (or similar)
- .45 oz. sal butter
- .05 oz. coffee, ground
- .45 oz. brown sugar
- .25 oz. pink Himalayan salt, fine ground
- .25 oz. cardamom mocha fragrance oil (or similar)
- .55 oz. pumpkin spice fragrance oil, of choice (or .12 oz. pumpkin spice essential oil)
- 25 drops stained glass sunflower orange liquid soap color (or similar)
Equipment and Tools
In addition to the ingredients called for in this autumn soap recipe, you will also need a few tools and some equipment. Following are the additional materials you’ll need to make this homemade pumpkin soap:
- Cake slice silicone mold: I specifically used the Crafter’s Choice™ Cake Slice Silicone Soap Mold for to make this DIY pumpkin pie spice soap. However, you can find the similar (though lesser quality) silicone 8-cavity cake molds for about half the price with free prime shipping on Amazon here.
- Digital kitchen scale: A scale designed specifically for making soap, such as this Baker’s Math Scale, is your best bet if you plan to make soap long term or even venture into making cold process pumpkin soap. Otherwise, a regular kitchen scale will work.
- Rubbing Alcohol: A spray bottle filled with rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol is helpful, though not absolutely necessary. It’s used to remove air bubbles from the liquid glycerin soap base when it is poured. It is also applied between the layers of soap to help them stick together.
- Microwave: You will use a microwave to melt the soap base for this recipe. However, if you don’t have a microwave, you can also use a double boiler or a small crockpot.
- Pyrex measuring cups: I used an assortment of heat safe, glass Pyrex measuring cups to make this autumn soap. The larger versions work best for this fall soap recipe for melting and mixing the soap base. While the smaller sizes are ideal for weighing out the fragrances and exfoliants.
- Utensils: You’ll need a utensil or two to mix the ingredients to make this pumpkin pie soap recipe.
How to Make Pumpkin Pie Soap
Here is how to make pumpkin pie spice soap using melt and pour soap bases, a moisturizing body butter, exfoliants and a unique fall fragrance blend that will leave your mouth watering for more:
Make the Pie Crust for the Pumpkin Soap
You’ll begin by making the first layer of soap. This layer will act as the pie crust and is scented to smell like a chocolate graham cracker.
1. First, weigh out 5.4 oz. of clear detergent free melt and pour soap base.
2. Cut into chunks and combine in a large glass Pyrex measuring cup.
3. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir. Heat again if needed, in 30 second increments, stirring in between heatings until the base has melted.
4. Next, weigh out the coffee, brown sugar and the pink Himalayan salt. Stir into the melted clear soap base.
5. Now weigh out the cardamom mocha fragrance oil.
TIP: I specifically used this fragrance oil for my pumpkin pie soap recipe. However, you can use a chocolate fragrance oil as well. Alternately, you can scent the entire soap with a pumpkin spice fragrance oil. The cardamom true sugar fragrance oil is pretty awesome, too. 6. Now pour the soap equally into three of the mold cavities.
7. Spritz with rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol then allow to cool and harden.
TIP: You can place your mold with the melted soap in the refrigerator to speed up the process. I find that the detergent free soap bases take a lot longer to fully harden than the ones with detergent.
8. Allow the soap to cool and harden.
Make the Pie Filling Soap Layer
After the pie crust soap has hardened, you’re ready for the next step. For this part of the project, you will make the filling for this pumpkin soap. Here is how to do so:
1. To make the pie filling for the pumpkin spice pie soap recipe, weight out 13.35 oz. of your white detergent free melt and pour soap base.
2. Cut the soap into chunks and combine in a large glass Pyrex measuring cup.
3. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir. Heat again as needed, in 30 second increments, stirring in between heatings until the base has melted.
4. Add 25 drops of the orange liquid soap color. If you’d like a deeper orange for your soap, simply add more color.
TIP: Alternately you can also use a chunk from an orange color bar. In this case start with part of one square, stirring until it melts fully, then add additional color as needed.
5. Now weigh out the pumpkin spice fragrance oil you’ve chosen to use and stir into the melted white soap base. (You can also use a pumpkin spice essential oil blend at a 1% dilution rate.)
TIP: If your pumpkin spice fragrance oil has vanilla in it, it will cause the soap to turn brown, giving your soap a brownish-orange hue. However, if you want to keep the look of the orange pie “filling” as pictured, be sure to use a vanilla stabilizer for melt and pour soap to prevent the soap from turning brown.
TIP: If you don’t want to use the pumpkin spice fragrance oil, you can easily substitute another pie like fragrance oil of your choice. Alternately you try adding .15 oz. of blood orange essential oil instead. This scent blends perfectly with the scent use for the chocolate graham cracker crust.
6. Spritz the tops of the pie crust (or first layer of soap you poured) in your mold with rubbing alcohol
7. Then pour the pie filling (or second layer of melt and pour soap) on top of the pie crust. Do this for each of the three cavities of your silicone mold.
8. Spritz the tops of your freshly poured soap with alcohol to remove any air bubbles.
9. Now allow the pumpkin pie spice soap to cool and harden fully.
Drizzle with Soap Icing
Once your pumpkin spice pie soaps have set up, you’re ready to add the icing drizzle! I specifically used the Crafter’s Choice basic white melt and pour soap base for the icing, not the detergent free. As this base sets up more quickly than the detergent free bases, it’s easy to work with for this application. You can, however, try it with the detergent free base if you like. But I can’t vouch for how it will perform.
This is where it gets fun! Here is how to add soap icing to your pumpkin pie soap:
1. Weigh out .45 oz. sal butter. Place into a glass Pyrex measuring cup.
TIP: If you don’t have sal butter, you can also use shea butter or another semi-solid butter in its place.
2. Heat the sal butter in the microwave at 50% power until almost melted.
3. Now weigh out 3.25 oz. of the basic white melt and pour soap base.
4. Cut into chunks and combine with the sal butter in the glass Pyrex measuring cup.
5. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir. Heat again if needed, in 30 second increments, stirring in between heatings until the base and sal butter have melted completely.
TIP: If you’d like to add some fun to your icing, you can add some flashing pearl, shimmer pearlor silvery white pearl micato the mixture.
TIP: I didn’t scent my icing, but if you’d like to scent yours you can add up to .15 oz. of a fragrance oil of your choice.
6. Allow the soap icing mixture to cool slightly.
TIP: You want to be able to pour it, but you also don’t want it to just run right off the tops of your pie soaps. Don’t worry if you pour it too hot the first time. You’ll have extra soap icing leftover to correct any mistakes. If it’s too hot on the first try, simply allow the base to cool a little longer, then pour it back over the tops of your pie soaps.
7. Remove your pie soaps from the silicone mold.
8. Now pour a layer of soap icing diagonally across the tops of your soaps using a back and forth motion.
9. This can be messy so be sure to pour the soap icing with your pumpkin pie soaps on a cutting board or another surface that is easily cleaned.
10. Once you pour the first layer, go back over the soap and pour another.
11. Now add some of the liquid orange soap color to the remaining “icing” to suit and mix well to combine. Repeat the process with the new color.
12. Once the soap icing on your pie soaps has set up, carefully remove them from your working surface.
13. Now wrap these fall melt and pour soaps tightly in foodservice film for gifting or storage. Your pumpkin pie spice soaps are ready to use when you are!
