I have an easy spinach quiche recipe with no mayonnaise is for you!! I have to start out saying that I don’t cook from scratch hardly at all, and if something isn’t easy it doesn’t happen in my house. (affiliate links present)

Easy Spinach Quiche no Mayonnaise

Needless to say this is a really yummy throw everything in a bowl, into the pie shell and into the oven kinda’ recipe. Even my kids even love (I call it cheese pie for them). 😉 Spinach quiche isn’t typically a kid friendly meal. I will say it took several times of “you have to take at least one bite” for them to actually say “yes!” when I said I was serving quiche.

NOW though they love it right along with us. You can make it as simple or loaded up as you like. We add mushrooms, bacon, and minced onion but you can do just a 3 ingredient vegetarian spinach quiche too if you’d rather. 😉 Make with refrigerated crust or our Tater tot spinach quiche seen above that tastes amazing.

Frozen Spinach Quiche Recipe

If you have ever made a spinach pie of any kind before they all have a similar taste, and can be doctored up to include other diced veggies too. Mushrooms and bacon bits are great of course. The crust is up to you as well. Of course ready made Pillsbury refrigerated pie crusts are the easiest.

  • Frozen creamed spinach – this is the one I use, many of my grocery stores carry it
    • different than frozen spinach, this is creamier
    • if you can’t find it you can use fresh or frozen chopped spinach in a skillet over medium heat to make it creamed spinach
    • I haven’t done this but imagine if you use 10 oz. total like I did it would work just fine
  • Eggs
  • Swiss cheese are the two other things you need for the basic spinach baked quiche
  • 1/3 cup to 1/2 cup diced bacon or leftover ham are great add ins
  • Sliced mushrooms are a must for us too

Throw it in a pie plate with your refrigerated (already made) or our pot pie crust and you’re ready to pop it in! It is certainly best right out of the oven so the cheese is ooey gooey but reheats well if it sits for a while and begins to cool down.

Easy Spinach Quiche

I make this simple quiche recipe on a semi weekly basis as a main dish. I serve with a side of salad, or sometimes I serve it with some cooked sausage.

This breakfast quiche is really simple to make as you just need to grate the cheese and throw the frozen creamed spinach in the microwave. Everything else is already ready to add into the bowl. Then bake at 375 degrees and enjoy.

This should take about 45 minutes total to prepare and cook. Many times I make them into Mini Quiches because I like how it cooks faster. The edges get a bit crunchy, and the kids love them because they are all theirs. 😉

All you do to make these is roll out the refrigerated pie crust. Use a regular glass to cut out the circles of dough. Then fill them as you normally would an entire pie and bake. That recipe and this quiche made with a tater tot crust is below. Easy muffin tin mini quiches are possible too, see below.

Either way you decide to make it, a whole quiche “pie” or mini quiches you really can’t go wrong. It is super easy to make and relatively healthy. Let me tell you that after a year of making this my whole family now LOVEs it when I say quiche is for dinner. Ok so I call it cheese pie for them but whatever. 😉

Recipe for Spinach Quiche

I would allow it to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before slicing. This will let it solidify a bit more so when you cut pieces they’ll come out nice and pretty. If I have a larger refrigerated pie crust that drapes a bit over the edge I will cover those edges with foil and take off 10 minutes before it’s done so they don’t burn. Printable recipe is below with nutritional information such as calories, saturated fat, etc listed as well.

How to reheat leftover quiche

Reheating leftover quiche is simple and can be done in a few different ways depending on your preference and available equipment. Here are three methods for reheating leftover quiche:

  1. Reheating Quiche in the Oven
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F
    • Place the leftovers on a baking sheet or oven-safe dish.
    • Cover loosely with aluminum foil to prevent the top from over-browning.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until heated through.
    • Remove the foil during the last 5 minutes of baking to allow the top to crisp up if desired.
    • Once heated through, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  2. How to Reheat Quiche in the Microwave
    • Place individual slices on a microwave-safe plate.
    • Microwave on medium power (50%) for 1-2 minutes, depending on the strength of your microwave and the thickness of the slices.
    • Check halfway through reheating and rotate the plate if necessary for even heating.
    • Continue reheating until your piece is heated through.
    • Let it cool for a minute or two before serving, as it will be very hot.
  3. Reheat Quiche in a Pan
    • Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat.
    • Place the slice(s) in the skillet.
    • Cover the skillet with a lid or aluminum foil to help heat evenly and prevent it from drying out.
    • Heat for about 5-7 minutes, flipping it halfway through, until it is heated through and the crust is crispy.
    • Once heated through, remove the quiche from the skillet and let it cool for a minute before serving.

Regardless of the method you choose, it’s essential to ensure that the thickest part is heated evenly throughout and reaches a safe internal temperature of 165 degrees F before eating.

FAQs

Is milk better than heavy cream in quiche? ›

Heavy Cream and Milk – For the best tasting quiche, use a combination of whole milk and heavy cream. (Or simply use half-and-half.) Using just heavy cream produces an overly thick filling. Whole milk is great, but a combo of heavy cream and milk is better.

Should vegetables be cooked before putting in quiche? ›

Cook the Veggies First

"Vegetables will take longer to cook than your egg custard, so always sauté onions, steam broccoli, etc. before you add them to your egg mixture to ensure every bite of quiche will be perfectly cooked," says Kristin Beringson, executive chef at Henley in Nashville.

Is quiche healthy or unhealthy? ›

Is quiche healthy? Quiche is bad news when it comes to a healthy diet. It's usually made with cheese and cream in the filling as well as butter in the pastry case, so it's often high in saturated fat and calories. Ingredients like bacon will add salt and more saturated fat.

Why is my spinach quiche watery? ›

Why is my spinach quiche watery? If you've ever cooked a big bag of spinach, you know that it wilts down to practically nothing! That's because spinach is mostly water. Let the spinach thaw overnight in the fridge or use the defrost setting on your microwave to speed things up.

What is the milk to egg ratio for quiche? ›

Quiche Ratio: 1 large egg to 1/2 cup of dairy

You'll need to increase the amount of eggs and milk based on the size of your quiche, so knowing the basic ratio makes it really easy to scale up or down. For a standard 9-inch quiche: Use 3 large eggs (6 ounces) 1 1/2 cups of whole milk or cream (12 ounces)

What is the best cheese to use for quiche? ›

You can use any shredded cheese you like; one winning combination is havarti, colby, and Parmesan. Quiche is an excellent choice for any meal, including a busy weeknight dinner. It can even be prepared in advance and refrigerated or frozen, then quickly reheated.

Do you need to prebake pie crust for quiche? ›

Some recipes like quiches recommend partially cooked pie shells because the baking time wouldn't be long enough to fully cook the dough otherwise. Pre-baking a crust can ensure that your pie or tart crust will be fully baked and browned, and not soggy.

Why is my quiche not fluffy? ›

The best quiche consists of a custard that's the perfect ratio between eggs and milk. Using too many eggs in the custard results in a quiche that rubbery and too firm when baked, while not using enough will prevent the custard from setting. Follow This Tip: Remember this ratio: 1 large egg to 1/2 cup of dairy.

Can I mix up a quiche the night before? ›

Quiche is one of the greatest make-ahead breakfasts I can think of. Meant to be served at room temperature—or even slightly chilled—you not only can make quiche ahead, you have to! That's one of the reasons it's so great for a celebratory morning breakfast.

Can diabetics eat quiche? ›

Quiche is a delicious and affordable meal. This one is crustless, which makes it lower-carb, well suited to a diabetic diet. It is great served alongside a lettuce or a fruit salad.

Can I eat quiche everyday? ›

Keep quiche portions small to control calorie intake. Quiche is a food that has the potential to be healthy, but could also be a diet downfall. Traditional quiche is full of cheese, eggs, cream and made with pie crust, all of which are high-calorie and can be fatty.

Is quiche better hot or cold? ›

Quiche must be eaten at least residually warm. Straight-from-the-fridge, cold quiche is a sad, drab thing, the filling set and leaden, the pastry all waxy with congealed fat. You need to loosen that quiche up a little: light some candles, give it a metaphorical massage, warm it through in the oven.

Can you eat spinach quiche cold? ›

Quiche is such an easy dish, suitable for any time of the day and effortlessly served hot or cold. Our Spinach & veg quiche has wholesome mushrooms, spinach, tomato, onions mixed with the freshest traditional quiche ingredients – fresh eggs, cream, milk and cheese.

Should quiche still be jiggly? ›

Baked quiche should be removed from the oven before the center is completely set. The center will jiggle slightly when cup or dish is gently shaken. Quiche will continue to “cook” after it's removed and center will firm up quickly. Over baked quiche may curdle.

Can you substitute heavy cream for milk in quiche? ›

Long story short, YES. You can use heavy whipping cream to replace half and half and/or milk in a recipe.

Is it better to bake with milk or heavy cream? ›

Whole milk is a good choice for general cooking and baking, as it adds richness and flavor without being too heavy. Heavy cream and heavy whipping cream are best for recipes that require a thick and creamy texture, or for making whipped cream.

Can I use 2% milk instead of heavy cream for quiche? ›

For gluten-free crust, try making a sweet potato crust. The Custard: For your custard to set properly in the oven, use this easy ratio: 1 part dairy to 2 parts eggs. Classic custards use heavy cream, but 2% milk contains a fraction of the saturated fat and is still plenty rich.

Why add milk to quiche? ›

The French are known for using cream, whole milk, and butter when cooking, and making a traditional French quiche is definitely not the right time to deviate and opt for margarine or skim milk. By choosing whole milk over one with a lower fat content, the baked quiche will have a light texture, per The Kitchn.
